MEMBERSHIP STRUCTURE & CRITERIA

Membership Philosophy

MIND membership is selective, merit-based, and tiered to ensure quality, diversity, and effective mentorship. Membership is open to Nigerian citizens and foreign nationals with demonstrable commitment to Nigeria's development.

Membership Categories

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Academic Qualification:

Doctoral degree (PhD, DBa, etc.) from accredited institution OR

Master's degree with minimum 7 years post-qualification professional experience

2. Professional Achievement:

Demonstrated expertise in relevant field (academia, public policy, private sector, civil society)

Minimum 5 published research papers, articles, or equivalent thought leadership outputs

Recognized contribution to national discourse or policy

3. Experience:

Minimum 7 years post-qualification experience

Track record of leadership in professional or community settings

4. Sponsorship:

Two sponsors who are current MIND Fellows

Sponsors must submit detailed recommendation letters addressing candidate's integrity, competence, and commitment

5. Commitment:

Evidence of sustained engagement with national development issues

Willingness to devote minimum 80 hours/year to MIND activities

Commitment to mentor younger members

Privileges:

Full voting rights in all elections and constitutional matters

Eligibility to hold elective office (Executive Committee, Board positions)

Lead research projects and policy advocacy teams

Represent MIND at national and international forums

Access to all MIND resources, data, and networks

Eligibility for MIND research grants (up to ₦5 million annually)

Use of MIND Fellow title and credentials

Invitation to closed-door policy briefings with senior officials

Obligations:

Attend minimum 3 of 4 Annual General Meetings

Contribute to at least one major research project annually

Mentor minimum one Associate or Young Intellectual member

Pay annual dues: ₦100,000 (or $500 for diaspora members)

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Academic Qualification:

Bachelor's degree with minimum 5 years professional experience OR

Master's degree with minimum 3 years professional experience

2. Professional Achievement:

Demonstrated competence in relevant field

Minimum 3 professional or academic outputs (reports, articles, presentations)

Active engagement in policy discourse

3. Experience:

Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience

Evidence of career progression and leadership potential

4. Sponsorship:

One sponsor who is a MIND Fellow

Sponsorship letter must attest to candidate's potential and values alignment

5. Commitment:

Passion for national development

Willingness to devote minimum 40 hours/year to MIND activities

Privileges:

Participate in all MIND programs, workshops, and forums

Contribute to research projects led by Fellows

Access MIND resources and professional network

Receive capacity building and mentorship

Vote in Associate-level decisions (non-constitutional matters)

Upgrade to Fellow after 2 years with significant contribution

Eligibility for small research grants (up to ₦1 million)

Obligations:

Attend minimum 2 MIND events annually

Actively participate in at least one project team

Support outreach to younger intellectuals

Pay annual dues: ₦50,000 (or $250 for diaspora members)


Eligibility Criteria:

1. Age: 21-35 years (inclusive) at time of application

2. Academic Qualification:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional certification

Minimum 2.1 or equivalent for recent graduates

3. Potential:

Demonstrated leadership ability (academically, professionally, or community)

Evidence of innovative thinking on development issues

4. Sponsorship:

One sponsor from MIND Fellow or Associate

Essay requirement: 1,500-word essay on "My Vision for Nigeria's Development"

5. Commitment:

Clear passion for national development

Willingness to actively learn and contribute

Privileges:

Structured mentorship from senior MIND members

Participation in youth-focused programs and workshops

Access to MIND's resource library and training materials

Opportunity to contribute to research teams as junior members

Network with peers and senior intellectuals

Priority consideration for MIND internships and fellowships

Annual capacity building retreat (fully funded)

Obligations:

Attend minimum 2 MIND events annually

Participate in Young Intellectuals' community service projects

Contribute to MIND's digital platforms (blog, social media)

Maintain active engagement with mentor

Pay annual dues: ₦20,000 (or $100 for diaspora members)

Criteria:

Reserved for exceptional individuals with extraordinary contributions to Nigeria's development

Nominated by Executive Committee and ratified by 2/3 majority of Fellows

No age or academic restrictions

Examples: Distinguished statesmen, Nobel laureates, transformational leaders

Privileges:

All Fellow privileges plus

Permanent seat on Advisory Board

Lifetime membership without dues

Use of "Honorary Fellow" title


Application Process (All Categories)

Identify and secure sponsors (for Fellow/Associate)

Prepare all required documentation

Pay non-refundable application fee:

o Fellows: ₦10,000

o Associates: ₦7,500

o Young Intellectuals: ₦5,000

Membership Committee reviews applications (4-6 weeks)

Verification of credentials and references

Assessment against objective criteria

Shortlist candidates for interview

Panel interview (virtual or physical):

o Fellows: 90-minute interview with 5-member panel (3 Fellows, 2 external experts)

o Associates: 60-minute interview with 3-member panel

o Young Intellectuals: 45-minute interview with 2-member panel

Assessment components:

o Intellectual rigor (30%)

o Values alignment (25%)

o Commitment evidence (20%)

o Contribution potential (15%)

o Communication skills (10%)

Panel submits recommendations to Executive Committee

Background checks conducted on shortlisted candidates

Final approval by Board of Directors

Notification within 2 weeks of interview

Induction ceremony at Annual General Meeting or special convocation

Issuance of membership certificate and ID

Assignment to relevant Chapter and thematic working group

Pairing with mentor (Associates and Young Intellectuals)

Access to member portal and resources

Mandatory orientation training (2 days)

Membership Renewal & Discipline

Annual renewal subject to:

o Payment of dues

o Fulfillment of activity requirements

o Adherence to code of conduct

Three-year continuous membership qualifies for "Senior" status

Fellows who reach 10 years become "Distinguished Fellows"

Investigation: Complaints reviewed by Ethics Committee

Sanctions: Warning, suspension, or expulsion

Expulsion Grounds:

o Gross misconduct

o Conviction of corruption or fraud

o Plagiarism or research fraud

o Public conduct bringing MIND into disrepute

Appeal: Right to appeal to Board of Directors within 30 days

Mixed methods: Quantitative, qualitative, and participatory approaches

Stakeholder engagement: Community consultations, expert interviews

Transparency: Open data where possible

Independence: No funding source influences findings
